In the wilderness there was a prophet named John, who wore camel‑hair clothing and ate locusts and wild honey, preaching a message of repentance. People from every region came to him, were baptized in the Jordan River, and confessed their sins. John declared, “One who is more powerful than I is coming after me, and I am not worthy to stoop down and untie his sandals.”
