After three years of drought, Elijah went to King Ahab and proposed a contest on Mount Carmel: whichever God answered with fire would be the true God. The 450 prophets of Baal cried out all day with no answer. Elijah then rebuilt the altar, soaked it with water, and prayed. Fire fell from heaven and consumed everything. The people fell down to worship, and Elijah prayed for rain to end the drought.
