Shortly after the Israelites left Mount Sinai, they began to complain again. God sent fire that burned the edges of the camp as a warning. Some of the people among them gave in to cravings, weeping for meat, longing for the fish, cucumbers, and garlic they ate in Egypt, and despising the manna God provided each day. Moses was overwhelmed and cried out to God. God commanded Moses to select seventy elders to share the burden of governance, and then summoned a wind from the sea that brought swarms of quail covering the ground. The people greedily hoarded the quail, and God sent a plague to punish those who gave in to their cravings.
