After Korah's rebellion, the people still grumbled and questioned Aaron's authority as priest. God commanded each of the twelve tribes to bring a staff, write the leader's name on it, and place it before the ark in the tent of meeting overnight. The next day Moses went in to inspect and found that only the staff of Levi, Aaron's tribe, had not only sprouted buds but also bloomed and even produced ripe almonds! This dead wood had come back to life in one night! God told Moses to permanently store this sprouting staff before the ark as a warning to the rebellious, and from then on the people's complaints stopped.
