In Egypt, the Lord told Moses and Aaron to make that month the first month of the year and commanded each Israelite household to prepare a lamb without blemish. At twilight on the fourteenth day, the lamb was prepared, and the lambโs blood was put on the two doorposts and the top of the door as the sign the Lord gave. The Israelites were to eat the roasted lamb with unleavened bread and bitter herbs, with belts fastened, sandals on their feet, and staffs in their hands, ready to leave in haste. Moses told the elders these words; the people bowed their heads, worshiped, and did as the Lord commanded.
