Joshua secretly sent two spies to scout the city of Jericho. The spies came to stay at the home of a woman named Rahab. When the king of Jericho heard about them, he sent men to capture the spies, but Rahab risked her life to hide them under the flax on the roof. Rahab told the spies that everyone in the city had become terrified after hearing about how the Israelites had escaped Egypt and defeated their enemies. She believed that the Lord is the true God of heaven and earth. Rahab begged the spies to promise to save her and her whole family. The spies made a pact with Rahab and told her to tie a bright red cord in her window as a sign. When the city was attacked, everyone in her house would be saved. Rahab lowered the spies down from the city wall with a rope. The spies safely returned to Joshua and reported: God has already given the whole land into the hands of the Israelites.
