After Jesus finished praying in a certain place, one of his disciples asked him to teach them to pray. Jesus taught them the Lord’s Prayer: to turn to their heavenly Father, honor his holy name, pray for his kingdom and will, ask for daily food and forgiveness, forgive others, and seek his help against temptation. The story also draws on related teaching in Matthew 6:9–13 and 7:7–11.
The Lord’s Prayer is a perfect model for prayer; prayer is an intimate conversation with our heavenly Father, not an empty ritual. The heavenly Father delights in us coming before Him with the heart of children.
