In Abraham’s old age, he married Keturah, and his household had more children. Abraham loved each child and often told them about God. He prepared gifts for his children, but kept the covenant blessing for Isaac. When Abraham died at 175 years old, Isaac and Ishmael buried their father together in the cave of Machpelah. Later, God blessed Isaac. Isaac and his wife Rebekah longed for children, so Isaac prayed earnestly for her. God heard his prayer, and Rebekah became pregnant with twins. God told Rebekah that the two boys were very different and would one day each lead a large family. Esau was born first, red and hairy. Jacob came right after him, holding his brother’s heel. As the boys grew, Esau loved the outdoors and the fields, while Jacob liked the quiet life near the tents. God knew them both and had His plan in this family.
