Naaman, the great commander of the army of Aram, was a brave and skilled warrior and held a noble position, but he had leprosy. A young Israelite girl who had been captured from his household told her mistress that the prophet in Samaria could cure the commander of his disease. Naaman went to Israel with rich gifts, but Elisha only sent a messenger to tell him to wash in the Jordan River seven times. At first Naaman was furious, feeling he had been treated with contempt. After being persuaded by his servants, he obediently went to the Jordan River and bathed seven times, and his skin was indeed restored like that of a little child. Naaman returned to thank Elisha and declared that he would believe only in the LORD. But Elisha's servant Gehazi secretly ran after Naaman to demand gifts, and after his lie was exposed, the leprosy transferred to Gehazi.
