Vanity under the sun

The preacher is a wise king, who sits in the palace of Jerusalem, beginning to contemplate the meaning of life. He watches the sunrise and sunset, the rivers flowing into the sea, the wind turning in circles, and discovers that all things are constantly cycling, yet nothing is truly new. He devotes all his effort to seeking wisdom, wanting to understand the reasons of the world, but finds that the more wisdom he gains, the more sorrow he feels, because all labor under the sun is like chasing the wind.
