While the women hurried to tell the disciples the good news of Jesus' resurrection, some of the guards from the tomb went into the city and told the chief priests what had happened. The chief priests and elders gathered, gave the soldiers a large sum of money, and ordered them to say, “His disciples came at night and stole Him while we were asleep.” The soldiers took the money and did as they were told, and this saying spread among the Jewish people. People may buy false words with silver, but they cannot change the empty tomb. Truth cannot be covered by money: Jesus has risen, and lies cannot defeat the work of God.
