In the dark days of King Ahab, the prophet Elijah announced at God's command that a long drought would come. God led him to hide by the brook Cherith, where He sent ravens to bring him bread and meat each morning and evening, and the brook gave him water. When the brook dried up, God sent Elijah to the town of Zarephath in Sidon, where a poor widow welcomed him with her very last handful of flour and a little oil. Because of her trusting obedience, the jar of flour and jug of oil never ran out through the whole famine. Later the widow's son fell sick and died, and Elijah prayed earnestly until God brought the boy back to life, so the widow came to truly know the LORD.
