While the prodigal son was still far away, his father saw him, was moved with compassion, ran to embrace him, and kissed him again and again. The son said, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am not worthy to be called your son." But the father told the servants to bring the best robe and put it on him, put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet, and prepare the fattened calf and a feast. Everyone rejoiced because the lost son had come home. Jesus used this story to show that the Heavenly Father welcomes people who repent.
