Jesus Defeats the Devil in the Wilderness

After being baptized, Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness, where he ate nothing for forty days. Then the devil came to tempt him three times: first by telling him to turn a stone into food, then by showing him the kingdoms of the world, and finally by telling him to jump from the top of the temple. Each time, Jesus answered with God's Word and refused to put food, power, or a showy miracle before obeying God. When the devil had finished every temptation, he left Jesus until another time.
