Jacob lived in Laban’s household for many years, and many children were born in his family. Leah already had Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah. Later, Bilhah and Zilpah also had children in Jacob’s household, and Leah had Issachar, Zebulun, and a daughter, Dinah. Rachel waited for a long time and felt sorrow; later God remembered her and she gave birth to Joseph. This family’s relationships were not simple, and everyone needed God’s care, wisdom, and peace. Jacob also cared for Laban’s sheep and goats for many years. Later Jacob and Laban agreed that speckled and spotted animals would be Jacob’s wages. In a difficult work relationship, God watched over Jacob and provided for his family. This story shows that in waiting, comparison, family difficulty, and hard work, we can seek God’s help and learn gratitude, honesty, and faithfulness.
