Hebrews does not tell us who wrote it, but it places before us a long line of witnesses to faith: Noah prepared the ark; Abraham and Sarah trusted God's promise; Moses and the people moved forward by faith; the Israelites encircled Jericho for seven days; and unnamed witnesses stopped the mouths of lions by faith. Finally, the passage invites readers to lay aside every burden, run with perseverance, and look to Jesus.
Faith does not mean pretending that difficulties are not there. It means choosing to obey because God is faithful, even before we can see the outcome. Like these witnesses of faith, we should lay aside what holds us back, run with perseverance, and keep looking to Jesus.
