As Jesus drew near Jerusalem, he sent two disciples to a nearby village to untie a colt that no one had ever ridden and bring it to him. The disciples obeyed Jesus' word, brought the colt, laid their coats on it, and helped Jesus sit on it. As Jesus rode slowly toward Jerusalem, people joyfully spread their coats on the road and praised God with loud voices, saying, "Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest!" This King is not a conqueror riding a warhorse with a sword, but the Prince of Peace, gentle and humble in heart, riding a young colt. He comes among us in an entirely different way, so that everyone who truly looks to him can welcome him with joy and praise.
In this story, Jesus does not enter the city riding a warhorse with a sword. He comes quietly on a young colt. This is the most special King the world has ever seen. He does not rely on force; he relies on humility. He does not want people to fear him; he calls them to worship and praise God with true hearts. "Humility" means not thinking too highly of yourself, but being willing to serve others. "Worship" means offering the most beautiful praise of your heart to God. Following Jesus, let us do three things. First, keep humility in our hearts: do not be proud or boast, but willingly lower yourself to serve others. Second, worship with joy: praise our King through songs, prayers, and thanks. Third, bravely confess that Jesus is the King who comes in the name of the Lord. May our hearts offer worship every day to the King who rides on a colt.
