Deep in the quiet night of Bethlehem, the baby Jesus slept in Mary's arms. An angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. "Arise! Take the young child and his mother and flee into Egypt โ Herod the king will seek to harm him." Joseph did not hesitate. He woke Mary softly and packed bread, water, and a small blanket. Under the moonlight, the little family quietly walked out and set off on the long road across the desert. In the hot sun they rested in the shade of a great rock. At night they could hear Herod's soldiers from afar, but the heavenly Father's angel spread bright wings and hid them safely. At last they came to the palm trees along the Nile and lived peacefully in a simple little house in Egypt. Many months later, King Herod died. The angel of the Lord appeared again, "Return. The one who sought to harm the child is dead." Once again Joseph obeyed. On the way home, when Joseph heard that Herod's son Archelaus was reigning over Judea, he was warned in another dream and chose Nazareth in Galilee. There Jesus grew up safely, surrounded by his parents' love and God's care. This story tells us: God deeply loves His children and often protects us in ways we never imagined โ a dream, a chosen road. What we must learn is to be like Joseph: when we hear, we rise at once and obey at once. When we obey God, He guards every step before us in the gentlest, safest way.
