Led by the Pillar of Cloud and Fire

After the Israelites left Egypt, the Lord did not lead them by the shortest road. He led them around toward the wilderness and the Red Sea. Moses carried Joseph’s bones, and the people traveled from Succoth to Etham at the edge of the wilderness. By day the Lord led them in a pillar of cloud, and by night He gave them light in a pillar of fire, showing that God was going before them.
