The Israelites continued their journey north, passing through several camps. They sent messengers to Sihon, king of the Amorites, asking for permission to pass through his land, but Sihon refused and gathered his army to attack Israel. Israel fought against Sihon at Jahaz and defeated the Amorites, taking over all their cities and territory. Israel then turned toward Bashan, where King Og came out with his entire army at Edrei to fight. God told Moses not to be afraid, for He would hand Og over to Israel completely. Israel indeed defeated King Og and took over his entire land. These two victories greatly encouraged the Israelites.
