Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, heard all that Yahweh had done for Moses and for Israel, and he brought Moses' wife Zipporah and their two sons to meet Moses in the wilderness. Moses welcomed his father-in-law with respect and told him how Yahweh had delivered the people from Egypt; Jethro praised Yahweh as greater than all gods and brought a burnt offering and sacrifices. The next day Jethro saw Moses sitting alone to judge the people from morning to evening, and he urged Moses to appoint God-fearing men as leaders to share the burden of judging. Moses listened to his father-in-law and did all that he said.
