Hagar helped in Abramโs tent camp, carrying water and caring for many daily tasks. Later, she learned that she would have a baby, and her heart was filled with wonder and hope. But for a time, Hagar felt very sad and lonely, as if she was no longer welcome. She left the camp by herself and walked into the desert, stopping by a spring of water. There, Godโs messenger called Hagar by name and gently comforted her. He told her to return to the camp and said she would have a son, a special gift from God. Hagar knew that God saw her and knew where she was. She returned with new courage, and later her son Ishmael was born. His name reminds us that God hears peopleโs voices and cares for the lonely.
