On the night Jesus was born, an angel appeared to shepherds in the fields outside Bethlehem. "Do not be afraid!" the angel said. "I bring you good news of great joy for all people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you—he is the Messiah, the Lord!" Suddenly a great host of angels praised God, saying, "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to those on whom His favor rests!" The shepherds went and found the baby lying in a manger.
On the night Jesus was born, the angels did not first tell kings or chief priests the good news. Instead, they appeared to humble shepherds in the fields outside Bethlehem. "Do not be afraid! I bring you good news of great joy—a Savior has been born for you!" A great host of angels sang praises in the sky. The shepherds set out at once to find the baby in the manger and told everyone what they had seen. This shows us that God loves to draw near to humble people, and freely gives His good news to hearts willing to believe.
