The Levite Korah joined with Dathan and Abiram from the tribe of Reuben, leading two hundred fifty respected leaders to rise up against Moses and Aaron, accusing them of putting themselves above everyone else. Moses fell face down, then invited them to each take their incense censers and come before God the next day, letting God show who He had chosen. The next day, Korah and his followers gathered at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting. God's glory appeared to them all and commanded the people to move away from the tents of these rebels. Moses declared: if the earth opens up and swallows these people, it will prove they have sinned against God. Just as he finished speaking, the ground split open and swallowed Korah, Dathan, Abiram, and all their families. Then fire came out from before God and burned up the two hundred fifty men who had offered incense.
