Edom Refuses Passage and Aaron's Death

Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, asking as a brother for passage through their land, promising to stay only on the main road without turning aside. But the king of Edom flatly refused and even came out with a large army to block their way. The Israelites had to go around. Later they came to Mount Hor, where God told Moses and Aaron that Aaron's time had come. Moses took Aaron and his son Eleazar up the mountain, removed Aaron's high priestly garments, and put them on Eleazar. Then Aaron died on top of the mountain. The whole family of Israel mourned for Aaron for thirty days.
