Lazarus fell deathly ill and died, leaving his sisters Martha and Mary heartbroken. When Jesus reached the tomb He wept—then cried out with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!" Lazarus, dead for four days, walked out of the tomb! This miracle showed everyone that Jesus is the resurrection and the life.
When Lazarus had been dead four days, everyone thought there was no hope, but Jesus said, 'I am the resurrection and the life,' and called him out of the tomb. This tells us: Jesus is the Lord who reigns over life and death—even death must submit to His sovereignty. No matter how hopeless our situation, we can still hold on to hope in Him, because His power transcends death and is our eternal hope.
