When Jesus saw the large crowds following him, he went up a hillside and sat down, and began to teach them. The disciples sat around him, and the people listened quietly. Jesus spoke in a gentle yet powerful voice, uttering a series of astonishing blessings. He said: โBlessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven; blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted; blessed are the gentle, for they will inherit the earth; blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled; blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy; blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God; blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God; blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousnessโ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.โ These words were completely different from what people usually thought โ in Godโs eyes, the humble, gentle, and merciful are the most blessed; true happiness does not lie in how much one possesses, but in having a heart that aligns with Godโs will.
