Jacob looked up and saw Esau coming toward him with many men, and he felt afraid. He arranged his family, then walked in front of them and bowed low many times, humbly meeting his brother. To Jacobโs surprise, Esau ran to him, embraced him, kissed him, and the two brothers wept together. Jacob introduced his family to Esau and asked Esau to accept the gifts he had sent. Esau first said he already had enough, but Jacob gently urged him to receive them and said, โI have seen your face, as one sees the face of God, and you were pleased with me.โ Esau offered to travel with Jacob, but Jacob knew the children and animals needed to go slowly, so he respectfully asked Esau to go ahead. Esau went toward Seir, and Jacob traveled slowly with his family and flocks to Succoth. The brothers met in peace, and Jacob continued trusting God for the road ahead.
