During the famine, Jacob heard that Joseph was still alive and traveled toward Egypt with his whole family. At Beersheba, Jacob offered sacrifices and worshiped God. In visions, God called to him, told him not to be afraid to go down to Egypt, and promised to go with him, make him into a great nation, and bring him up again. Joseph went by chariot to Goshen to meet his father, and after many years apart, father and son embraced. Later Joseph presented his brothers and Jacob to Pharaoh, and Pharaoh gave them good land to live in. Joseph settled his father and the whole household in the region of Rameses and Goshen and provided them with food during the famine.
