When the Israelites reached the border of Canaan, God commanded that one person from each of the twelve tribes be chosen to scout out the Promised Land. The twelve spies traveled deep into Canaan for forty days. They saw that the land was indeed good and rich, and they cut down a huge cluster of grapes that took two people to carry. However, when they returned, ten of the spies admitted the land flowed with milk and honey, but spread a bad report, saying the people there were as tall as giants, the walls were huge and strong, and the Israelites were like grasshoppers compared to themโthey could never conquer it.
