Daniel was the most faithful helper of King Darius. Every day he knelt by his window and prayed to God three times. Some jealous men did not like this and made up a law: for thirty days, only the king could be prayed to. Daniel still prayed to God. The night he was thrown into the lions' den, God sent an angel to shut the lions' mouths; they lay beside him as gentle as kittens. The next morning King Darius saw Daniel safe and well, and proclaimed to the whole kingdom: 'Daniel's God is the true and living God.'
