After the Israelites crossed the Red Sea, Moses and the people sang to Yahweh by the sea. They remembered that He had thrown horse and chariot into the sea and had become their strength, song, and salvation. The song praised Yahweh’s power, holiness, steadfast love, and reign, and told how He leads the people He redeemed. Then Miriam the prophetess took a tambourine, and the women followed her with tambourines and dancing, answering with praise that Yahweh had triumphed gloriously.
