The whole congregation of Israel left Elim and came to the wilderness of Sin. The people grumbled to Moses and Aaron because they had no food, but Yahweh said He would rain bread from heaven for them, to test whether they would walk in His instruction. In the evening quail covered the camp, and in the morning, after the dew lifted, fine flake-like frost lay on the ground; the people asked, "What is it?" Moses told them this was the bread Yahweh had given them to eat. They gathered manna day by day according to need, took a double portion on the sixth day, and did not go out to gather on the seventh day, the Sabbath. Later, Yahweh told Moses to keep an omer of manna in a jar before Him, so that future generations would remember how He had fed His people in the wilderness.
