Pharaoh still would not let the Israelites go. Through Moses, God warned him that if he kept refusing, locusts would cover Egypt. Pharaoh’s servants urged him to let the people go, but Pharaoh would allow only the men to leave and refused to let all the people worship God. Moses stretched out his staff, and an east wind brought countless locusts. They covered Egypt and ate the green plants and fruit left after the hail. Pharaoh admitted that he had sinned against the Lord and asked Moses to pray; the Lord sent a west wind that drove the locusts into the Red Sea. Yet Pharaoh’s heart remained hard, and he would not let the Israelites go.
