God sent swarms of flies that filled Pharaoh's palace and covered all the land of Egypt, but there were no flies in Goshen where the Israelites lived—God made a distinction between His people and the Egyptians. Pharaoh began to relent, agreeing to let the people sacrifice in the land, then modifying it to go but not too far, yet he went back on his word once the plague stopped.
