When Moses was tending sheep in the wilderness of Midian, he saw a bush that was burning with fire but was not consumed. He drew near to look at it, and God called out to him from within the bush, telling him that he had heard the cries of the people of Israel in Egypt. God sent Moses back to Egypt to meet Pharaoh and lead the people of Israel away. Moses felt he was not capable of this task, but God promised to be with him and revealed his name — "I AM WHO I AM."
