Jesus passed through Jericho, and there was a chief tax collector named Zacchaeus, who wanted to see what kind of person Jesus was, but because he was short he was blocked by the crowd, so he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree. As Jesus came by, he looked up and saw him, and said, “Zacchaeus, come down quickly, for today I must stay at your house.” Zacchaeus welcomed Jesus joyfully and promised to give half of his possessions to the poor and to repay fourfold anyone he had cheated.
