The Israelites Suffer in Egypt

After Joseph died, a new Pharaoh ruled Egypt who did not know Joseph. When he saw the Israelites becoming many, he became afraid and forced them into hard labor, making them build store cities for him. Pharaoh then called the midwives Shiphrah and Puah and commanded them not to let Hebrew baby boys live. But the midwives feared God and did not obey Pharaoh’s cruel command. God was kind to them, and the Israelites continued to grow strong even in difficult days.
