As a Deer Thirsts for Streams of Water

This Psalm paints a beautiful picture of our longing for God — like a deer thirsting under a burning sun, racing toward the stream. Though the poet is far from the temple, full of sorrow and mocked with 'Where is your God?', he does not give up hope. Again and again he says to his soul, 'Why are you downcast? Put your hope in God!' This teaches us: in our saddest, loneliest moments, do not forget that God is our fountain of living water. Keep longing for Him, keep seeking Him — for He will once again fill us with joy and praise.
